Knotty White Oak: Material and Application Showcase

Knotty white oak brings together visible knots, flowing grain and warm wood tones. This visual showcase moves from close-up material and full panels to kitchen cabinetry and wall cladding, offering references for design discussions and sample approval.
Material character: knots as a design feature
The photographs show dark knots set within fine longitudinal grain, with local grain movement around individual knots. Consider knot size, distribution and the overall colour range together when defining the character of a project.

Application views: from cabinet fronts to the room
Simple door divisions allow the grain to become the main surface detail. Grey stone-patterned surfaces, white counters and metal appliances complement the warm oak palette. Vertical grain on tall units and wall cladding helps connect adjacent surfaces.

Selection and sample approval
- Review a full panel or several physical samples for colour variation, knot distribution and grain layout.
- Agree acceptable knots, openings, splits and repairs, then review the treated surface.
- Confirm the construction, substrate, thickness, edging and finish before approving a complete sample.
- Check colour under the intended project lighting; lighting, finishes and screens affect photographic appearance.
